This is the first installment of tricks, skills and transitions. In this session you’ll be led through a routine of condition, stretching and acrobatics. This session is designed to help you make progress by mastering the strength and flexibility components first, before moving through drop back skills and back walkover drills.
INCLUDED IN THIS 40 MIN WORKSHOP:
- BACK & CORE WARM-UP
- A good back and core warm up is essential to any flexibility practice, especially one where tricks are involved. This clever and effective warm-up is just the thing to get you prepared to bend your best.
- FLEXIBILITY WARM-UP
- After a warm up focused on conditioning, comes a flexibility warm up. This order of operations is essential to the health and longevity of your practice. Front splits and backbends are the major components of this routine. In this session I'll break down the active flexibility techniques that I teach in my weekly group classes, and demonstrate them for you.
- DROP BACK DRILLS
- The first and most important skill to learn is the drop back. In this section, I'll break down the mechanics of the drop back and give you several progressive variations to practice.
- KICK OVER DRILLS
- The second major component to learn is the kick over from wheel pose. In this section, I'll teach you some drills to make the kick over more attainable and smooth.
- BACK WALK OVER DEMO
- In order to achieve the backwalkover, we must paste together the drop back and kick over, with some special modifications to help you make this trick successfully. In this section, I'll show you the variations of back walkover that work best for most students, as well as some of the more classic gymnastics style walkovers.
- BACK WALK OVER VARIATIONS
- There are many different variations of back walk over to practice, some more advanced than others. In this section, I'll show you a few of my favorites!
